LONDON ROAD

about

CRISIS FOR CHRISTMAS
I wrote this song in about 1984 the last time we had a " homeless crisis"
with hundreds of people sleeping in cardboard boxes under Waterloo Bridge and on the Southbank and indeed all over the country and here we are again.

lyrics

Waterloo sunrise kicking up the dawn
Nothing But the Clouds to keep you warm
Soho streets are dirty and cold
Living in a box if your young or old
Governments say they do what they can
Thousands on the streets in the promised land
Say there ain't a problem they got a plan
For the homeless woman and the down and out man

I know it just ain't right
sleeping in the park on a Saturday night
Say this city ain't got no soul
Gonna break your heart on the London Road

Seventy years he's the King of the Road
Living on an island in a sea of clothes
Sweet sixteen vagabond queen
Travelled to the city in search of her dreams
Living in a subway deep underground
The rumble of the tracks is the only sound
Got no money got no home
Rainbow's end on the London road

I know it just aint right
sleeping in the park on a Saturday night
Say this city aint got no soul
Gonna break your heart on the London Road
Rainbow's end on the London Road
